Directed by Hari and co-produced by Stone Bench Films, Zee Studios, and Invenio Origin, Rathnam (transl. Gem) is an action movie set in Tamil, India in 2024. Alongside Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Hareesh Peradi, Mohan Raman, and Vijayakumar, Vishal plays the film’s lead role. Following Thaamirabharani and Poojai, this is Vishal and Hari’s third joint venture.
Since this is Vishal’s 34th feature film as the lead, the movie was first formally announced in April 2023 under the working title Vishal 34. The actual title was revealed in December 2023.
July 2023 saw the start of principal photography. Filming took place in multiple locales, including Thoothukudi, Trichy, Karaikudi, Vellore, Tirupati, and Chennai. The project was completed by late January 2024.
